California is one of the leading states for cannabis tourism. It has some of the best stargazing spots in all of California, including at various cannabis-friendly spas and star-gazing sites like the Big Bear Star Gatherings.

At Big Bear Star GatherATIONs, visitors can go out into the woods and see the stars through NASA-provided telescopes. They can also visit a botanical garden where they can learn about plants that produce starlight or plant lore.

Other popular locations for stargazing include Mount Tamalpais and Lake Tahoe. At Mount Tamalpais, visitors can go to a lookout tower where they can see almost all four directions at once. At Lake Tahoe, visitors can go to certain hotels to rent an umbrella so they can observe the night sky from their grounds.

San Francisco

San Francisco is one of the top-mentioned cities for stars in the world. There are dozens of sky-friendly locations throughout the city, and every neighborhood has at least one spot to see the stars.

The Presidio is a large, beautiful park with a lake, golf course, monuments and memorable experiences. The Presidio State Historic Site includes its famous Alcatraz prison and visitors center where you can watch the stars from an 18-hole golf course tees.

The Chinese Star Festival takes place in late February or early March, when people gather at night to view thousands of constellation patterns on the hills and watch the moon rise together.

Humboldt County

A rural area with few urban developments, Humboldt County is a nice place to visit. The county has a number of star-oriented places, such as Mount Shasta State Park, which features an extensive and well-planned trail system for stargazing.

At night, the stars appear to move around in an unexplained way. Because of this, it is common to refer to a location as a pot tent camp or star party spot. Both terms refer to relatively private locations where people can stargaze without worrying about being photographed or raided by authorities.

A good pot tent party should feature at least one bright star that can be seen for several hours after the sun sets. At such a party, you should try to find at least one dark spot where you can lay down and relax.

Pot tents are not illegal and do not need special attention for attending a pot party, but they should make sure that they have enough lighting and speakers for people to hear the viewings.

Lake Tahoe

Located in California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range, Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place to visit. There are numerous attractions to check out, including hiking and biking trails, theme parks and water parks, and casinos.

Some of the best places to watch the stars are at Lake Tahoe’s many campgrounds. The views are amazing and you can do it in your own time! A great way to start your night is by sitting by a fire or by the water’s edge on a cool night.

The Golden Gate Bridge

The iconic bridge that spans the San Francisco Bay is a perennial favorite sightseeing spot. The bridge links Marin County to Contra Costa County and offers spectacular views of the Bay and the city below.

There are a few places where you can enjoy your stars at night, and they are located on the bridge. The closest is at Alamo Square Park, where you can find an open-air amphitheater with picnic tables and a lake with benches.

In terms of cannabis-friendly star spots, Alamo Square has some great spots where you can enjoy a smoke. At Coalition Community Health Center’s Smokehouse, you can sit outside in weather conditions that would make even professional athletes want to cool off.

You can also find open fires inside historic residences in nearbymission district, where there are usually lots of children around. These are typically permitted in semi-public spaces such as parks and schools, so it is legal to do in front of children though.

Mendocino County

Mendocino County is one of the top star-gazing spots in California. Mendocino County boasts some of the best skywatching conditions in all of California.

Mendocino County is located on the northern coast of California, just south of Point Reyes National Seashore. This makes for an excellent location to observe the stars as the sun sets and rises, giving you some incredible views.

If you are looking to meet up with other stargazers, Mendocino County has some great locations to visit like Russian Valley State College, Lake Tahoe or Mt. Tamalpais Regional Park. At night, you can find public star-gazing events happening at downtown buildings or parks.

Death Valley

While not the star-smokeiest spot in California, Death Valley is a gorgeous place to enjoy the stars. Located in a remote part of Northern California near Yerber National Park, Death Valley is renowned for its star-smoky skies.

Since there are only two bright stars in the sky, you can really appreciate the vast amount of stars that are out at night. It is also known for being one of the warmest places on earth so you can spend hours outdoors enjoying the view and being with your person is welcome.

Joshua Tree National Park

Once an oasis in a desert surrounded by military bases, military installations, and large estates, Joshua Tree National Park has been revitalized thanks to the popularity of nature and its trails.

Visitors can enjoy views of the surrounding area and spend time exploring the secluded creeks and rocky cliffs that surround the park. Some of these overlooks are literally Smokes and Stars: Two congressional districts that border the park vote green in politically-oriented areas like trails and signages for parks.

While not legal to smoke in Joshua Tree, there are a few sites where you can light up if you get high. One popular spot is at Cloud Peak Observatory, where you can see the stars if you are able to get high.

Central California Coastal Range
